AEMC Instruments MD361 AC Current Probe (500AAC, 1mVAC/AAC, BNC Output)

Rugged hook-jaw AC current probe designed for VFD troubleshooting, power quality analysis, and industrial current measurements.

Features

  • Unique hook-shaped jaw pries into tight spaces and hooks onto cables and bus bars, handling cables up to Ø 1.18 in (30 mm) and bus bars up to (2.48 × 0.20) in (63 × 5) mm
  • BNC output (1 mV/A into a 50 Ω insulated lead) connects directly to oscilloscopes, and to DMMs with a BNC-to-banana adapter
  • Wide 5 Hz to 10 kHz bandwidth captures low-frequency VFD fundamentals and higher-order harmonics — great for power quality and harmonic analysis on drives and distribution circuits
  • Measures (1 to 500) Aac continuously (700 A max), with 700 A / 10 min overload withstand for demanding industrial loads
  • Rated 600 V CAT III / 300 V CAT IV — strong polycarbonate housing built for industrial environments

The MD361 is a passive AC current probe that turns any oscilloscope into a window on your power system. Clamp it around a cable or busbar, connect the BNC to any scope — AEMC or otherwise — and read live current waveforms at 1 mV AC per 1 A AC. No external power, no batteries, no setup. Just open the jaw and measure.

Built for field techs, motor and dive troubleshooters, and power-quality work, the MD361 delivers the waveform fidelity you need to actually see what's happening — inrush spikes, PWM switching, harmonic distortion, phase imbalance — across a 5 Hz to 10 kHz range tuned for real-world power and motor signals.

Why the MD361?

  • Asymmetic "hook" jaw the uniquely shaped jaw opens wide and reaches into tight spots, clamping oversized busbars and large conductors that trip up conventional round-jaw probes.
  • Passive iron-core design no external supply and no battery to die mid-measurement. Simpler and more affordable than Hall-effect probes, with very low output noise for its class.
  • High value, lower cost professional AC waveform capture at a price well below comparable Hall-effect current probes. If you don't need DC, you shouldn't have to pay for it.
  • Voltage output, straight to your scope clean 1 mV/A AC signal over an insulated 50 Ω BNC connector; works with virtually any oscilloscope.
  • For connection to any digital multimeter, order 2119.94 Adapter - BNC (Female) to 4 mm Banana (Male), 600 V CAT III.
  • Safe by design dual / reinforced insulation, rated CAT III 600 V and CAT IV 300 V, and compliant with IEC 61010-1 and IEC 61010-2-032 for current sensors.
  • AC only The MD361 uses an iron-core (inductive) sensor and does not measure DC. For AC waveform work, that's exactly what keeps it simple and cost-effective.
